MTN Ghana Accelerates Digital Talent Development with One Million Coders Initiative

MTN Ghana is intensifying its investment in digital skills development to prepare the country for an AI-driven future. Chief Digital Officer Ibrahim Misto revealed this during an exclusive interview at the Africa Tech Festival 2025, highlighting the impact of the company’s One Million Coders initiative and other capacity-building projects.

Misto emphasized that MTN Ghana’s goal is to develop a skilled, future-ready workforce that can compete globally. “Our goal is to ensure Ghanaian talent is ready to build and compete,” he stated. “AI and digital transformation require skilled people, and we are committed to helping develop that talent at scale.”

The One Million Coders Programme is a key initiative, training young Ghanaians in coding, software development, artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, and other emerging technologies. Misto noted that this programme aims to empower young innovators to build African solutions for African challenges.

MTN Ghana is also strengthening its investment in digital research and innovation through platforms such as the Technology Innovation Hub, providing incubation spaces for young entrepreneurs and startups.

According to Misto, MTN Ghana’s talent-development initiatives aim to democratize digital access and make technology more inclusive, with AI and digital services accessible across all communities.

However, Misto cautioned that unstable and costly energy remains a significant threat to Africa’s digital and AI ambitions, emphasizing the need for collaboration between government and private industry.

The Africa Tech Festival 2025 showcased Africa’s progress in AI, fintech, cloud technology, and digital innovation, with Ghana’s strong showing highlighting its growing influence in shaping the continent’s digital transformation.
