The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has convened a strategic consultative meeting with the 24-Hour Economy Authority to finalize the pilot implementation of the 24-hour economy programme within the downstream petroleum industry. This landmark move aims to modernize Ghana’s energy sector and boost national productivity and job creation.
The meeting, chaired by NPA Chief Executive Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), and the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).
Discussions focused on logistical requirements for 24-hour fuel loading and discharge, night-shift labor frameworks, and financial incentives to support businesses transitioning to the new model. “We are leaving no stone unturned,” Mr. Tameklo said, emphasizing the authority’s commitment to the initiative.
The pilot programme will test the feasibility of round-the-clock fuel station operations and depot services in select metropolitan areas before a nationwide rollout. This move is expected to reduce daytime traffic congestion and provide more flexible refueling options.
The NPA is working closely with security agencies to ensure a robust security architecture, including enhanced patrols, smart surveillance, and worker safety protocols. With the 24-Hour Economy Authority now operational, the NPA’s proactive stance signals a new era for Ghana’s energy landscape.
