NDC Happy with Bawumia’s Election as NPP Flagbearer, But Won’t Be Complacent – NPA CEO
By Ernest Best Anane, Kumasi
Mr. Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is happy with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s election as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on TV3, Tamekloe said the NDC believes Dr. Bawumia has nothing new to offer Ghanaians, given his role in the previous government’s economic challenges, including a 54% inflation rate and 850,000 Ghanaians falling into poverty.
He noted that Dr. Bawumia’s win was largely due to the unchanged delegate list and low turnout, with 47% of party members not voting for him.
Mr Tamekloe questioned Dr. Bawumia’s ability to win the 2028 elections, given the reduced votes compared to the 2023 primaries.
The NPA CEO also praised Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s performance in the Volta Region, beating Kennedy Agyapong and Dr. Bawumia, and predicted he could be a future face of the NPP.
