Dr. Chief Nathaniel Ebo Nsarko, Director General of the International Human Rights Commission, has expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the nation following the tragic passing of eight government officials in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. Dr. Nsarko described the deceased as “men of vision, duty, and sacrifice” whose lives were committed to the progress of Ghana.
While acknowledging the efforts of farmers who acted as Good Samaritans in carrying the remains of the deceased in cocoa sacks, Dr. Nsarko expressed concern over the handling of the immediate aftermath of the crash.
He condemned the circulation of graphic images of the deceased on social media, emphasizing the need for solemnity and dignity in such situations. Dr. Nsarko commended the Ghana Armed Forces for the dignified manner in which the remains were later received in Accra.
Dr. Nsarko urged the Ministry of Communications, in collaboration with the National Media Commission, security agencies, and digital platforms, to act swiftly to recall and remove all graphic images from circulation.
He stressed the need for a clear national directive to be issued to social media outlets and digital creators, calling for respect for the sanctity of life and death, especially where national service is concerned.
The tragedy, Dr. Nsarko said, must become a turning point for Ghana to strengthen its emergency response systems and put in place protocols that preserve dignity even in disaster. He extended his condolences to the families of the departed heroes, emphasizing that their loss is Ghana’s loss, and that the nation stands with them in grief and honor.
Dr. Nsarko is urging Ghanaians to rise with purpose and resolve, even in their grief, and to honor the memory of the fallen heroes by recommitting to the values they upheld. He prayed that the noble souls of the deceased rest in perfect peace and that God heals the land
