MTN Group’s CEO Calls for Closer Collaboration in Ghana’s Ongoing Telecom Reforms

MTN Group’s President and CEO, Ralph Mupita, has emphasized the need for closer collaboration in Ghana’s ongoing telecom reforms, highlighting the country’s critical role in the company’s strategy and operations. Speaking at the Bright Conversations event in Accra, Mupita underscored MTN’s commitment to accelerating digital and financial inclusion across Africa.
Mr Mupita noted Ghana is central to MTN’s vision of driving digital and financial inclusion on the continent.
According to him, MTN Group reported its strongest first-half results in nearly eight years, with Ghana contributing significantly.
He stated that MTN will consolidate focus around three core businesses: connectivity, FinTech, and digital infrastructure, preparing Africa for technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Mupita stressed governments must create an enabling regulatory environment with spectrum available at reasonable cost and clear frameworks.
Mr Mupita commended Ghana’s reforms and Minister Samuel Nartey George’s leadership in driving the digital economy.
He said MTN explores balancing affordability of data and devices with infrastructure investment.
According him, Sunsetting older technologies like 3G could reduce costs and enhance service quality, per a GSMA report on Ghana’s digital economy.
Mr. Mupita highlighted a decade of work ahead for MTN in delivering digital and financial inclusion, with Ghana playing a key role in the company’s operations across 16 markets.
