Mr. Ibrahim Misto, MTN Ghana’s Chief Digital Officer, has called for a bold and united effort to redefine Africa’s digital identity.
Speaking at the 10th Anniversary of the MOBEX Africa Tech Expo and Innovation Awards, Misto urged stakeholders to build an ecosystem that is secure, inclusive, and authentically African.
Mr. Misto emphasized the need for Africa to take ownership of its data, infrastructure and digital narratives, stating that the continent’s digital identity has been fragmented and often defined by others.
According to him, MTN Ghana has invested over $1 billion in digital infrastructure in the past five years, with an additional $240 million committed in 2025 to expand fibre, 4G, and 5G connectivity.
Mr. Misto revealed innovations showcased at MTN DigiFest 2025, including the MoMo Business App for SMEs, Abena AI, and youth-focused eSports initiatives, as examples of local innovation driving inclusion.
Mr George Spencer Quaye, MOBEX Africa’s CEO, reflected on the platform’s decade-long journey of promoting digital inclusion and innovation across the continent. He reaffirmed MOBEX Africa’s commitment to remaining a catalyst for digital excellence and regional collaboration in the years ahead.
Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa, The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, commended MOBEX Africa for promoting innovation and stressed the importance of digital autonomy and shaping Africa’s technological destiny. He called for stronger cooperation among African states to harmonize digital policies, enhance cybersecurity and ensure that Africa’s digital trade frameworks reflect African interests.
