GECA Urges Government to Award Contracts to Certified Members
From Ernest Best Anane, Kumasi
The Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) has appealed to the government to award direct contracts to its certified members for electrical wiring in public facilities.
The association argues that despite being a government-certified professional body, they are often overlooked in the current contracting process.
Mr. Devine Osei Mintah, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of GECA at their Health Walk believes that assigning specialized wiring tasks to certified members would significantly improve safety standards across public facilities.
The appeal comes amid frequent instances of government buildings catching fire, a situation GECA attributes to poor electrical wiring.
According to him, to address such issue, GECA urges the government to separate electrical wiring contracts from main building contracts and award them directly to certified members.
Mr. Devine Osei Mintah, emphasized that the move would improve safety standards.
Samuel Oduro Kwarteng, Regional Secretary, echoed these sentiments, stressing that awarding contracts to GECA members is essential to ensure standard work and guarantee public safety.
