Ashanti Regional Peace Council Denounces Target Killings of Kumasi Kusasi Chief

The Ashanti Regional Peace Council denounces the target killings of Kumasi Kusasi Headman’s Chief
From Ernest Best Anane, Kumasi
linguist and a sub-chief in the Kusaasi Traditional Council,Abdul Malik Azenbe,at his residence in
Asawasi F-line.
A press statement signed by Dr Harriet Takyi, Ashanti Regional Chairperson and Copied to the Chronicle Newspaper indicated three people have also lost their lives in the same manner. We express
our sympathies to the communities and families and commend the Ghana Police Service’s prompt
response.Such prompt responses and continuity in building relationships with the public through
proactive overt action will enhance public trust in the service.
For peace and calm to be established within the Asawasi community and the region at large, the
Council urges the general public to remain calm and allow the security agencies to carry out thorough
investigations into the unfortunate incident.Individuals are encouraged to make constructive use of the
appropriate institutions in resolving their grievances rather than resorting to target kilings and
violence that calls for any reprisals.Additionally, the Council cautions against unguarded statements
and conclusions to link the incidents to ethnic conflict,as there is no established evidence to support
such claims.Migratory groups are on an economic mission that should serve as a point of agreement to
forge harmonous relationships rather than a ripple effect on events in other contexts. We encourage
citizens to continue maintaining peace and tranquility in the country by giving authorities early
warning information to help fight impunity and rebuild confidence in the peacebuilding infrastructures.
Again, the Council is extremely concerned about the proliferation of illegal arms in the Ghanaian
society and Ashanti Region in particular and therefore calls on all stakeholders, especially the security
agencies,to support the ongoing community education program on illegal possession of arms and light
weapons across the country.
In conclusion, the Council urges citizens to have an oversight responsibilities on the nation’s security
slogan,”If you see something,say something,”and it must be action-related.
Long live Ghana,Long Live Ashanti Region
Signed
Dr.Harriet Takyi
