From Ernest Best Anane, Kumasi
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has called on residents and stakeholders in the Asokore Mampong Municipality to cooperate with security operatives to enhance lasting peace and development.
According to him, peace is paramount for development, and without a peaceful coexistence and environment, there can be no sustainable development.
Addressing Nananom and stakeholders in the Municipality as part of a familiarization tour, Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence and living as brothers and families. He assured them of the government’s commitment to ensuring that their taxes would be a value for money in the provision of infrastructure and social amenities to improve their standards of living.
The Regional Minister disclosed that the government has disbursed about 80% of the Assemblies Common Fund to the Assemblies and would ensure that the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) are accountable for their stewardship of the District Assembly Common Fund. He also stated that the government is determined to complete previous government stalled projects in the various MMDAs to ensure accountability.
Dr. Amoakohene indicated that all road contracts would be completed, except for those under investigation for alleged double payment. He disclosed that the government has awarded about 22 new road contracts in the Ashanti region and 12 school project contracts to be constructed through the government’s emergency fund.
The Nananom and Zongo Chiefs of Asokore Mampong appealed to the Ashanti Regional Minister to beef up security in the Municipality to stop the indiscriminate killings of their wards. They also requested the completion of abandoned schools and Agenda 111 projects, as well as a market facility at Asokore Mampong as part of the 24-hour economy markets project.
