Ahafo Ano South East MP Launches Free NHIS Registration and Renewal Drive for 10,000 Constituents
From Ernest Best Anane, Adugyama
Mr Yakubu Mohammed, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South East Constituency in a significant move to enhance healthcare access, has launched a comprehensive free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal exercise targeting 10,000 constituents.
The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), aims to ensure that vulnerable residents, including those with expired NHIS cards, can access quality healthcare without financial barriers.
The programme covers first-time registrations and renewals, restoring access to essential health services for thousands.
Speaking with the media, Mr. Mohammed emphasized that access to healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. Adding that the initiative removes financial obstacles that prevent the people from seeking medical care when they need it most.
He disclosed that the exercise is expected to benefit children, the elderly, pregnant women, persons with disabilities and low-income earners. By absorbing registration and renewal costs,
The MP expressed the hope that the exercise would reduce out-of-pocket health expenses and encourage reliance on formal healthcare facilities.
Mr. Mohammed has called on eligible constituents to participate fully, reaffirming his commitment to improving living standards. Says the initiative positions access to health as a cornerstone of development in Ahafo Ano South East, ensuring no resident is left behind.
The Healthcare providers described the initiative as as a timely intervention aligning with national efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The NHIS officials assure residents of smooth registration processes and urge beneficiaries to participate, and would ensure community mobilization activities that will precede the exercise to ensure widespread participation.
Residents have expressed gratitude to Mr. Mohammed, citing his responsive and people-centered leadership.
