Kumasi Mayor Embarks on Surprise Tour to  improve City

From Ernest Best Anane, Kumasi

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has embarked on a surprise tour to assess the progress of his initiatives aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure and services. The tour, which took place on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, covered several locations in the city, including Abinkyi, Adehyee Market, Apagyafie Intersection, and Alaba drainage.

*Addressing Infrastructure Challenges*

During the tour, the Mayor inspected a thoroughfare road at Abinkyi, which had been blocked by Tonket Company Limited. He directed the company to produce structural permits and other documentation for scrutiny before Monday, warning that failure to comply would result in the removal of the blockage.

The Mayor’s action is in line with the Local Governance Act of 2016, Act 936, which requires prior written approval from the District Spatial Planning Authority for physical development .

At Adehyee Market, the Mayor observed an overflow of waste that had eroded a stretch of the road due to poor drainage. He directed that traders on the slabs and pavement be relocated for at least a day to allow for a thorough assessment of the drainage and find a lasting solution to the problem.

The Transport Engineer, Nana Atta Poku, recommended that the eroded stretch of the road be scarified and the base rebuilt

The Mayor’s surprise tour aimed to assess the progress of his initiatives and identify areas that require improvement. With the support of his operational team, security operatives, and metro guards, the Mayor is working to restore sanity and order in the city.

The tour demonstrates the Mayor’s commitment to improving the lives of Kumasi residents and making the city a better place to live and work.
