3rd Joint GSAP-GASA Conference Held in Kumasi Explores AI in Animal Agriculture

The Ghana Animal Science Association Production (GSAP) and Ghana Animal Science Association (GASA) convened their 3rd Joint Conference in Kumasi, focusing on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance animal agriculture’s impact.
Professor Nana Awusi-Mensah, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, KNUST, delivered a keynote address emphasizing AI’s potential to transform the sector.
The Theme for the Conference dubbed, The Role of Animal Agriculture in National Development in an Era of Artificial Intelligence.”
He disclosed that AI can aid disease prediction in poultry, optimize cattle feed, promote fair value chains for small farmers, and support wise use of water and land.
 Professor Awusi-Mensah urged researchers, policymakers, farmers, agribusiness leaders, and students to collaborate for practical AI applications.
He expressed the view that  AI’s role in making animal agriculture more impactful, efficient, and sustainable.
Professor Dadson Awunyo-Vitor (Provost, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, KNUST, also described the conference as a crossroads blending traditional animal agriculture with AI’s transformative power.
He indicated that the conference focus  Explored AI applications like disease forecasting, feed optimization, and using IoT/blockchain for transparency in value chains.
Prof. Awunyu-Vitor disclosed that the Future Vision is Envisioned Ghana leveraging AI for smarter, sustainable, inclusive agriculture; developing homegrown AI innovations.
He encouraged bold thinking, wise action, realistic planning for AI integration in agriculture.
He reiterated that the conference underscored the potential of combining traditional animal agriculture with AI technologies for national development and sector growth in Ghana.
