NDC Reiterates Commitment to Youth Empowerment in Nation Building
From Ernest Best Anane, Kumasi
Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to providing opportunities for youth to contribute to national development.
Speaking at the NDC Youth Wing’s Second Quarter Momentum Walk in Kumasi, themed The Young Appeal,” Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that the NDC values youth ideas and contributions, citing President John Dramani Mahama’s demonstrated commitment to empowering young people.
The event aimed to attract voters aged 18 and above, with Dr. Amoakohene highlighting the NDC’s track record of respecting and working with youth. He pointed to his own appointment as Regional Minister at a relatively young age as evidence of the party’s commitment to youth empowerment. Dr. Amoakohene assured that the NDC government would deliver on its 2024 election promises, citing improvements in the economy, reduced fuel prices, and relatively stable inflation.
24-Hour Economy Policy, Launching in early July, this policy aims to create opportunities for youth employment in security, private sector, and other areas.
Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the NDC’s commitment to supporting young people.
Ms. Bridget Bone, lead organizer of the event, urged youth to be patient with the government as it works to fulfill its promises.
Ms. Bone also warned against drug abuse, emphasizing its potential to harm future aspirations and the country’s leadership pipeline.
The NDC leadership has faced some criticism from the youth wing regarding appointments and recognition of their contributions.
The NDC Youth Wing has been actively engaging with the party leadership, seeking greater recognition and inclusion in decision-making processes. Despite some tensions, the party has maintained its commitment to youth empowerment, with initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy Policy aimed at driving economic growth and job creation.
