King Mswati III Urges Africans to Complement Each Other
From Ernest Best Anane, Kumasi
Kumasi, Ghana – His Majesty King Mswati III, Head of State and King of the Kingdom of Eswatini, has called on Africans, particularly leaders, to prioritize complementing each other instead of competing with one another in terms of productivity. Speaking at the Kumasi Rotary Park, King Mswati emphasized the importance of learning from one another, sharing experiences, and ideas without competition.
The monarch made the call when he was received by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), led by the Mayor of Kumasi, Mr. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, also known as King Zubah. The meeting aimed to engage in bilateral interaction and share ideas between the two countries, particularly in local governance systems.
King Mswati stressed that Africans should focus on living in a better Africa for all, rather than competing with each other. He encouraged the two countries to work together, strategize, and leave a good legacy for future generations.
The King also emphasized the importance of accountability and urged local government officials to work together to create partnerships and generate revenue. He tasked the Assembly members to invite and convince potential investors, provide necessary support, and incentives to drive development.
Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, and Member of Parliament for Banda, explained Ghana’s decentralization policy and the role of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in local governance. He highlighted the constitutional provisions that support decentralization and the transfer of powers and resources to local authorities.
The Minister also disclosed that the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs has been re-aligned to bring together local government, traditional authorities, and faith-based organizations to work together in decision-making.
